As a child, we would often have our feet measured. Every year we’d look forward to getting new shoes at the start of the school term and as a young girl, we’d have fond memories of getting our first pair of little heel shoes.
But as we reach our adult years we tend to simply choose the size that feels best when we try them on in the shop. Women can go many years wearing the wrong size - sometimes up to 2 sizes too big or too small.
In fact, a study from the College of Podiatry revealed that nearly half the women in the UK are wearing the wrong shoe size - and a third of 2,000 people asked admitted to wearing shoes that don't fit properly.
Wearing poorly fitted footwear can have a negative impact on your health. In the short-term, corns, nail problems and athletes’ foot can occur. Over a longer period, more serious health problems could arise like joint/back pain and collapsed arches,
So, having your feet measured is very important and it should be done by a trained retailer or healthcare practitioner.
According to Michael Ratcliffe, Podiatrist at Carnation Footcare, - “Correctly fitting footwear should have little or no negative impact on your health. “
